Search Engine Marketing

Author: Phillipe Wu
As part of your overall Internet marketing strategy, it is important to devote resources to search engine marketing. This component of your marketing mix has become increasingly critical due to the importance that search engines and directories play in how prospects access information.

Search engines have the advantage of driving highly qualified traffic due to the self-selection process initiated by the searcher in choosing their search query. Research shows that there are more than 8 hundred million people in the world have the habit to access Internet. 86% of them tend to locate information via search engines. In addition, research shows that most people will only look at 2 to 3 pages of search results, so your ranking among the results is becoming increasingly important.

When developing your search engine strategy you need to understand how search engines work, how they are different from directories, and how to maximize their effectiveness in making sure that your business gets as much exposure as your budget allows. Search Engines populate their databases for search results through robotic software programs that crawl the web looking for content to index. This crawling requires that the software find text-based machine-readable content to index and categorize a site. The content accessed is from the meta tags (title, description, keywords, alt image tags), filenames and content on pages throughout your site. Spiders tend to look at the root directory, 1st level files and occasionally will spider your site to 2nd level content. To determine a site’s meta tags, right click your mouse and select View Source.

If your site has not been developed with search engines in mind, you could have difficulty in having your content properly indexed. Search engines also determine relative rankings of results based on certain algorithms that include factors like link popularity, site traffic, site content, etc. When search engines first evolved, they were based on a “free” business model, where conceptually all sites had an equal chance of being indexed and displayed in search results if their developers optimized with some basic steps. While the basic steps are still an important part of your search engine marketing strategy, they no longer are enough.

This is due to the fact that many search engines (and dot bombs) found that it wasn’t just about capturing eyeballs, but was also about making money. This has led search engines to modify their business models to capitalize on all possible sources of revenue generated by their traffic and/or technology. Traffic was seen as a logical source for advertising revenues and technology was felt to be transferable for use at other sites requiring robust search engines. To date, most search engines have not elected to go towards a subscription-based model where searchers get charged for accessing information. These new business models require that site developers work even more closely with marketing strategists to ensure that the most effective business decisions are made.

Google Sandbox

The Google Sandbox and How To Get Out

Author: Doug Williams
By Doug Williams November 2005 Volume 1 Issue 2
The Google Sandbox is a filter that was put in place in about March of 2004. New websites with new domain names can take 6 to 12 months to get decent rankings on Google. Some are reporting stays of up to 18 months. The Sandbox seems to affect nearly all new websites placing them on probation. Similarly, websites that have made comprehensive redesigns have been caught up in this Sandbox. Does this Sandbox Really Exist, or is it just part of the Google algorithm? This has been a big controversy with many different opinions.

Most now believe that this is an algorithm. In either case, the Sandbox functions to keep new sites from shooting to the top of Google in just a few weeks and overtaking quality sites that have been around for many years. This appears to be an initiation period for new websites. Yahoo and MSN do not seem to have anything similar to the Sandbox. Many websites rank on the first page for their targeted phrases on these two search engines, yet are nowhere to be found on Google. The more competitive the keywords used, the stronger and longer the website’s stay in the Sandbox.

If your website focuses on very competitive keywords, you are likely to remain in the Sandbox for a longer period of time than if you use on keywords that are relatively low traffic. It doesn’t seem to matter how much original, well optimized content and regardless of how many quality inbound links the site may have. Which sites go in?

All sites are likely given a term in the Sandbox, but those websites seeking rankings in highly competitive searches, are probably in for a much longer duration.Sites can avoid the Sandbox for several reasons.

Sites which were launched before the March 2004
Sites targeting non-competitive keywords and phrases
Sites targeting less competitive search terms have a much shorter stay.
Domains owned prior to the Sandbox implementation would likely be spared.
Many believe that Google is performing analysis with an eye towards "Sandboxing" non-natural text. Low quality text could pre-dispose a site to penalties or make it more difficult to "escape" the Sandbox. Sites with unnatural linking that may indicate purchased links and other spam methods that Google deems unnatural manipulation may be Sandboxed.

How can I tell if my website is in the Sandbox or is banned? A Sandboxed site many times will have a good PageRank and a high amount of incoming links. There may be good results for secondary phrases but cannot be found on the primary, more competitive phrases. Sandboxed sites will be visited regularly by Google. Sandboxed sites will frequently have good rankings on MSN and Yahoo. Banned websites typically do not see the Googlebot visit their websites, regardless of who is linking to them or how good their content is. How do you get your website out of the Sandbox?

The only real escape is time but there are some folks reporting success by publishing articles. They are writing articles on their site topic and either placing the full article on their home page, or placing a summary on their home page with a link to the article page. Then they are then submitting the article to as many free article directories as they can find. These articles provide valuable links back and some are reporting that their sites are being released in as little as one month. It might also help if your web site has its own IP address and it also seems to help if you have a link from the Yahoo directory. However, these theories haven't been confirmed yet. Use your time in the Sandbox wisely.

You have an excellent opportunity to build all the elements that cause websites to perform well in the search engines. Build traffic by writing articles, building a strong community of visitors, and partnering with websites that offer some service to your visitors. Establish a low-intensity, long-term link building plan and follow it religiously. Start promoting your website the moment you create your website, not when your website is fully ready. Add content and make improvements to your web site regularly.

There appears to be penalties for re-designing sites. Websites undergoing major renovation in content and layout appear to also be caught up in the Sandbox. This appears to be aimed at spammers who are buying older websites and converting them for their use. It's important to avoid over-analysis of the Sandbox and to be aware of the filter's qualities to make recognition easier. If you are caught up in the Sandbox, it is best to push forward and continuously make improvements and updating your website.

This is best for your visitors and moves you out of the Sandbox sooner.

Search engine optimization 123

Author: Benjamin Hargis
In order to succeed online nowadays you need to implement a search engine marketing strategy. There are many different things you can do to to get better search engine results. The goal is to increase traffic to get more sales or qualified leads. For instance if your in real estate in Washington D.C. you want to focus on keywords for your area such as Washington D.C. real estate. Real estate agents still use traditional marketing methods such as the newspaper when online marketing is more effective, cheaper and further reaching.

I think the best way ultimately is get good results in the search engines organically not thru PPC or Pay Per Click over time. That way you dont have to invest money for advertising online. Dont get me wrong Pay Per Click will bring you traffic. With PPC you bid on keywords. There are services such as Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing, they price of the bids depends on what keywords your bidding for and competiion. There is alot of talk on the Internet of white hat and black hat SEO methods. Black SEO methods will get you banned from search engines which is not a good thing for business.Search Engine Optimization includes analzying your wrbsite to make sure it is search engine friendly, focusing on keyword density which is the amount of times your keyword shows up on your webpages.

You need to focus on your descripion tags, meta tags, you should also bold, italize and underline your keywords. I would not overdo it thought there is a fine line between SEO and search engine spamming. You should have a plan to succeed online. There are many steps such as checking your current rankings, amount of links and working on improving those.Identify keywords for your target audience and put your efforts into optimazing your website for those phrases.Links play a important role as well both inbound links, those are linking pointing to your website from other websites.Work on link building to increase your link popularity to improve your search engine results.Outbound links, who are you linking to?

Not only are links important but the quality of links. If your a real estate company you should work on getting real estate related links pointing to you. There should always be new content added to your website. A blog is also a great idea becauce you put links into it for your own website.Submit your websites to search engines. This is an easy process.Check your logs as this will tell you where your visitors are looking and you can foscus on those pages.Doing SEO work is often time consuming. I talked to people on a daily basis who do not have the time to work on their websites. Its understandable.

There are people who do this fulltime. They are called search engine optimization experts.I do not claim to be an expert but can perform search engine marketing and have done so for many clients who have seen an increase in traffic. The search engine field is changing constantly. Google is constantly changing their search engine algorithims.

I think Google is a great company and honestly we havent seen anything yet as far as search engines go.Benjamin HargisPhuture Networks

SEO Past and Future

Search Engine Marketing – The Past, The Present and The Future

Author: Carmen Jackson
1997 – 1999 were the early years of search engine era. Internet Marketing and more specifically search engine marketing mainly consisted of submitting your sites to the search engines. These "voices from the past" are still heard today when this or that Search Engine Optimization company and / or automatic submitting software will claim to do search engine promotion for you by submitting your site to hundreds and thousands engines and directories. The search engines' indexing programs, called "robots" or "spiders", looked through all of the HTML code of a page and used some page ranking algorithms that they kept in secret.

Those days were spammers' Heaven: it was rather easy to get your site ranked high. You could just use your keywords lots of times on the page, in the META tags, HTML comments etc. and hide it from the human visitors by making the text tiny or completely invisible with the help of HTML tricks. The search engines didn't have any sophisticated technique to recognize this kind of spam, and such sites usually got high rankings very easily. Today, you still can find some samples of this primitive optimization (however you will have to give it a hard try, because nowadays most of such Web projects have been banned by the search engines for excessive keyword usage). The only exception was Yahoo which has always been indexed by humans who could in most cases identify and ban spamming pages.

Gradually, search engines started recognizing spam and applying corresponding penalties to Web pages using spam methods. However, search engine optimizers were always one step behind the search engines in finding new ways of cheating the indexing algorithms. Hence each search engine is committed to delivering only relevant results to its visitors, the engines needed to take control away from the spammers and auto-submitters. Many began to try different ways of indexing. The Rise of Google If someone is asked today about the first search engine to remember, the answer will be Google in 100% cases. Google has started its way to be the King of search engines in 2000 and in 2002 its right for this title has been firmly established, with around 70% of searches done on the Internet.

While other search engines were focusing on transforming to universal portals, Google kept a simple and – which has become its distinctive feature – fast interface that solely targeted delivering relevant search results. Google also developed advanced features such as indexing and searching PDF (portable document format) and SWF (shockwave flash) files. Additionally, Google's sophisticated techniques to use the "off-the-page" factors made it extremely spam-resistant. Google's dominance has become steady in 2000 with Yahoo having switched from Inktomi to Google as secondary search result provider. Now, Yahoo uses the combination of Overture's and own search software and index repository, thus being fully independent on Google, however, without any slightest impact on the dominance of the latter. Global Consolidation By 2001, the results of all major engines were produced from a number of mixed / hybrid sources.

Yahoo search results combined Yahoo-directory listings, Overture (PPC) results, and Google results. MSN provided results from Overture (PPC), LookSmart , and Inktomi. The years 2002 and 2003 brought major reshuffles among search engines: in this period, Google purchased Blogger.com, Yahoo bought Inktomi, and AltaVista and AllTheWeb became a part of Overture. Also, there were many shifts caused by emerging search engine partnerships. Further in this course we will give you a complete and actual chart of relationships between the contemporary search engines. Search Engine Marketing Today If you thought nowadays search engine marketing can still be done by acquiring (and using) an auto-submission software, drop this idea since now on. Search engine marketing requires an integrated approach to improving site content, quality and popularity. For a Web site to reach its top potential, it must incorporate target audience analysis, competitive analysis, cost per click optimization, and - last but not least - copywriting and copyediting. And, because things keep changing, search engine marketers need to devote a good deal of time staying on top of the SEO industry and its trends.

Today very few (and mostly inexperienced) optimizers / marketers would use spam methods to achieve high ranking. In many cases, spamming and the so-called "black-hat" SEO is recognized by automatic spiders, for these become more and more intelligent. Even though we describe major spamming methods in the end of this course, we do it only in the sake of your awareness. We do NOT recommend using them, as there's no guarantee at all they can help, whereas it's very possible that your Web visibility can be seriously damaged as a result.

The Future of Search Engine Marketing Search engines have already developed into sophisticated systems, and no doubt they will continue to enhance their technical aspect, with improved capabilities to index pages that are located deeply within the site (many links away from the initial page). Also, their abilities to handle dynamically generated pages (e.g. shopping carts) can be expected to grow. Among other perspective trends are advanced non-HTML content indexing (such as PDF and graphics), improved ability to rapidly integrate new content such as news using XML feeds or other technology, organization of search results into logical categories (sometimes referred to as clustering), and other advanced features. For insights into the future of search, you could visit Google Labs ( http://labs.google.com).

This is the beta area where Google showcases some of its upcoming technologies. However, the traditional "highest-bidder" approach makes SEM feel more and more like traditional print advertising. The Integrated Approach to SEM anticipates that in future, best marketing efforts will aim to leverage the three components: paid advertising and analytics, all-sided site and content optimization and qualitative off-the-page factors enhancement.

That is why we prefer to call the functions provided by Web CEO "Search Engine Marketing" rather than "Search Engine Optimization". When all is said and done, it is the traffic you get and the way this traffic converts that matters – not even your site rank on a search engine. You can rank worse than your competitor, yet the percentage of your visitors that turn into buyers will be so high that you actually outperform your competitor several times.

Fortune from Adsense

How Smart Online Entrepreneurs Are Making A Fortune from Adsense Using Free Sites

Author: Maggie Wallace
You have probably read lots of advice from various so-called experts warning you against the use of free sites. But while you have been taking in this piece of advice and information, others have been busy making a fortune online, using those very free sites that you have been warned against. Most of these new Internet entrepreneurs have used blogs or web logs to achieve their enviable accomplishments.

Many people have not appreciated just how much blogs have changed the World Wide Web and especially many perceptions that previously carried a lot of weight. For instance we are now seeing popular blogs hosted by free services achieving colossal traffic. In other words the emphasis seems to have shifted rather dramatically to the value of the content rather than that of the “vehicle” that carries it.Because the content in blogs tends to be updated very regularly, search engines have quickly fallen in love with them. The result is that they’ve been enjoying very high search engine rankings.

Then there is the almost natural tendency for blogs to link to one another. The result of this has been that many blogs have almost effortlessly quickly picked up the sort of five figure daily traffic numbers that websites have had to wait for years to achieve. Some blogs have done it in a few short weeks.Smart online entrepreneurs have established a couple of interesting and tightly focused and targeted blogs, based on both their experiences and valuable, high-paying keywords. The results have been phenomenal with some of them drawing in thousands of dollars monthly in Adsense earnings. For most of them, their earnings from the Adsense click affiliate program have surpassed any other earnings they may have had previously from their online businesses.

Now imagine a situation where some of these new breed of online entrepreneurs have taken the trouble to host their sites at with free hosts who have such a professional approach and look that it is difficult to convince anybody that their sites are hosted free. The result has been the sort of increased Adsense earnings that others find difficult to believe. It really is worth the effort to look for a good free host to enhance the image of your blog. There is little doubt that this will quite often pay off in a big way in terms of your Adsense click affiliate earnings. This article is free for republishing

Understanding Search Marketing in 2006 / 2007.

Author: Sharad Saxena
Understanding Search Marketing in 2006 / 2007.By Iwebresources.com (Sharad Saxena)Visitors find related information by using a search engine. You may have the most incredible website on the Internet, but it will receive little or no traffic without search engine visibility and ranking. The goal for your website is to appear on the first or second page of the search engines’ results when your target users searches keywords or keyword phrases.

Because most people who use search engines only look at the first page or two of the search results. Search engines like Google, AltaVista, MSN etc currently indexing over 10 billion pages; hence it becomes more and more difficult to get listed in top rank. The creation of original and high quality contents provides the highest returns. It's extremely important to set aside time to research on your content as content plays a vital role, if you want to get listed in top rank of search engines. Content is extremely important because it ‘s the content which is indexed in search engines and on this indexing position of a website depends in search engines. Also do some research to find good keywords, which you think will be used by visitors to find your website. Use good keywords with low competition.

Content also play a role to get inbound one-way links for your website as if content is good then other web sites wants to link with your website.Link popularity in simply terms is the total number of web pages that link to your web page or website. Search engines rank web pages and websites by checking link popularity of your website. Link popularity increase the visitor’s traffic and getting good web page rank given by search engines. Always try to increase incoming links on your website, as incoming links are relevant links which is relevant to your website services and products. Incoming links helps to get targeted visitors who are looking for similar type of services or products over web. Another type of link exchange is reciprocal link in this type of link webmasters exchange links with other in order to boost their link popularity.

Adding links in your website is a very effective way to get direct traffic to your website. At this time Google is at number one along with Yahoo! And MSN Search at second and third place respectively. These three search engines holds / represent between 85% and 95% of all traffic that arrives at a website directed by a search engine or directory service.Try to add your website in all search engines and directories, if you website get listed in Google it doesn’t means that your work is over.

Try to promote and add your website in other search engines also like MSN, AltaVista etc. And above all try to list your website in Open Directory (Dmoz) as it is the most important directory that exists on the web today.MSN Search currently holds a smaller share of the search engine market than Google or Yahoo! But MSN has the constant attention of consumers, because of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, as long as MSN has such a strong majority of the browser market they are able to be in market for a long-long time. That’s why try to list your website in MSN Search also.Outsourcing Articles Directory:

Need more Traffic

Need More Traffic? Optimize Your Website!

Author: Rick Parrott, MCP

Are you looking to the internet as an additional revenue stream for your business? Many companies are these days. Unfortunately, some small business owners believe all they have to do is post a webpage to the internet and sit back and watch the money flow into their bank account. Sorry to disappoint you, but that is not the way it happens. Marketing is as important to the online business as it is to an offline business. How are your customers going to find your website? Simple, you have to tell them where it is.

You use your marketing strategy to do so.Just like in your “brick and mortar” business needs customers your online business needs customers. On the Internet, we call it traffic. To be successful, you need focused pre qualified traffic.Optimizing your website will bring qualified prospects to visit. Your conversion rates will be higher because your visitors will be interested in your products. Instead of creating interest, you only need to direct it to where you want.So how do you get this wonderful traffic? You use technology to assist your marketing! Make those search engines work for you instead of against you. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of creating the optimal environment for your business website. We are going to break it into these four steps.1. Keywords and keyword phrases.2. Optimization of the physical layout of your internet website. (Discussed in part two.)3. Providing quality content. (Discussed in part three.)4. Linking strategies. (Discussed in part four.)

Key Words and Key Word PhrasesSay you are putting together a website on horses. How are people going to find it? You got it, words and phases! Sit down and look at your website. What is it really offering your customers? Is your website is about horses? What kind of horses? Arabians! Is it a history site or training site or both or neither?Eventually, you define your site as one about the history and training of Arabian horses in Argentina. Now you can generate a list of words and phrases to describe your site content.

Enter your keywords into a search engine and determine how to combine them based on how focused you want the results. For example:Arabian (HITS=14,200,000)Argentina (HITS=191,000,000)Horses (HITS=45,400,000)History (HITS=1,670,000,000)Training (HITS=1,450,000,000)Horse training (HITS=19,300,000)Horse history (HITS=37,700,000)Training horses (HITS=8,260,000)History of Arabian horses (HITS=611,000)Training Arabian horses (HITS=563,000)

Training Arabian horses in Argentina (HITS=112,000)Putting these words together into key words phrases will help your customers target your website. The more targeted your keywords, the easier it will be for your customers to find you.As you can see, when your keywords become more explicit, you get fewer returns from the search engines.Search engines regularly scan websites to update their records. High quality focused keywords and keyword phrases will help them index your website. Once indexed, your keywords will help direct customers to your website.

This translates into increased sales. Before you read part two, take time to identify keywords and keyword phrases for your website. In the next segment, we will take these keywords and imbed them into the structure of your page to increase the chances that your customers will find your website. SA Securehttp://www.sasecure.net

How to Make Your Web Pages Search Engine Friendly

Author: Jeremy Maddock
Making your web pages search engine friendly is the basic first step in getting higher rankings for your keyword(s) of choice. Before optimizing any individual page, you need to choose a primary word or phrase that you want to optimize it around. This word or phrase should be something that relates to the content of your page, and that you have a realistic chance of ranking well for. Being the #1 result for your primary keyphrase is a good long-term goal to have.Once you have selected your primary keyphrase, it is a good idea to put it in high-visibility locations, such as the title and heading tags.

You might also want to incorporate it into your meta tags. These tags can be very useful for organizational purposes, even though most search engines pay them little or no attention. In addition to your primary keyphrase, you should come up with a few secondary keywords. These should be things that relate to your primary keyphrase in some way. A good place to put secondary keywords is in secondary heading tags, outgoing anchor text, and scattered throughout the content itself, as well as in the "alt" attribute of relevant images.

A final step to take in making your site as a whole more search engine friendly is to link every page back to the homepage at least once, and to as many other (relevant) pages within your site as possible.Once you are satisfied that your page is well optimized around the words and phrases of your choosing, it's time to move on to the next page, and start the process again.***About the Author: Jeremy Maddock is the owner SEOMix.com, a high quality source of useful SEO tips.

Keywords

Keywords - Don't underestimate their importance

Author: Matthew Rankin
Everyone knows all about keywords right? Well, that's what most people think, and to a degree that are probably right. However, in this article we are going to look at not just the importance of having targetted keywords, but also which keywords you should use on your site, and in what order they should be listed in your META tags, and elsewhere on your site.Ok, so you've got a list of 100 really good keywords. Here are a few steps you should take:1.

Remove any keywords that are only one word (eg. money). These keywords will not bring you targetted visitors.2. Remove any keywords that don't directly relate to your site, you really only want a list of 5 - 10 keyword phrases of 2 - 4 words (eg. home based business, earn money from home etc.) Don't worry about having a short list if you do, it will change in the next steps : )3. Ok, now for some good stuff. Open up the Overture Keyword Selector Tool. Enter in what you think your best keyword phrase is, then click on the little blue arrow. (eg. "work at home business")4. Now, what you will see immediately is the popularity of your search term witht he number of searches done at Overture for the past month.

You'll also see similar search terms with their popularity listed.5. Create a simple text file and list in it each search term and it's popularity. Feel free to try different searches, and sometimes it is better to just use 1 word, and let the tool provide you with suitable phrases.6. Sort your list by search popularity, ie. the highest numbers go at the top.7. Now, delete any more than 10, and certainly anything that has a number of under 10,000.8. Now you have your new list of keywords, ensure that you enter them into you META tag in the order they are listed. An example which I use for this page is below:

9. Now, the next step which is equally as important is to include the first 2 keywords in your page title, in your headings and at the beginning of your description META tags. The sonner a search engine see your keywords, the better your listing will rank.10.

Ensure that you use all of your keywords at least once on your site! Some search engines will penalise sites for list keywords in their META tag that do not exist anywhere else on the website.Well, that's about it in a nutshell, remember that good keywords are imperative in driving search engine traffic to your website. The more people that search for a term, the more people that are likely to visit your site - sounds simple I know, but you'd be amazed at how many people ignore this simple rule! This article is free for republishing

Link Strategies

Link building strategies

Author: Matt Bacak
Well, an effective link building strategy is not building some 50-100 back links with sites with 'X' PR. It is more of getting links from the informative websites that is visited often by the people who could be your future customers. In broad sense the websites related to your focus industry.Link popularity refers to the number of links pointing to and from related sites and is an extremely important method of improving your site's relevancy in search engines.

There are three types of links that will increase the link popularity of your site; internal, incoming and, to a lesser extent, outgoing links.Let's take a look at each one in more detail.Internal linksInternal links are amount of links to and from pages in a site. Cross-linking your important related pages is recommended for a better search engine visibility. This assists search engine spiders to find and index your most key pages faster, particularly if some pages are hidden deep within your site.Site mapsSite maps or sitemap are visual models of your site's content that enables users to find exact content or page on your website. Site maps are like interactive table of contents, with links leading to most or all the pages on your website.

Site maps are organized hierarchically, breaking down the site's information into progressively more specific subject areas.Incoming linksIncoming link popularity refers to links pointing to a site from other related sites. In addition, there are two types of incoming links:1. Linking from your own sitesCrass linking as we discussed above is very much recommended for a better crawl of your site by spiders. You must select keywords that describe the site you're linking to. You have to do this because some of the major search engines, such as Google, place a great importance on the text used within, and close to, links.2. Linking through other sitesThere are two ways of finding sites to link to yours.

The best way to get other sites to link to yours is to ask them politely. And the best way to find likely candidates is to ask web sites that link to your competition. To find out which sites are linking to your a particular competitor, visit a search engine such as Google and enter, "link:" followed by the competitors domain name (with and without "www").For example:Link:google.comlink:www.yahoo.comTo check the link popularity of your own sites, simply use your own domain name.Once you got the list of related sites, add a link to these on your site. Follow it by sending an email to each web site owner acquainting them that you have linked to their website and request them for a link back to your site.Another important way to find list of sites that accept site submissions.

To find such sites, visit a search engine, such as Google, and search for:"add url" "your keywords"Quotation marks are must as it ensures the search engine only return pages with the exact search phrases you search for. Also try replacing, "add url" with one of the following sets of search phrases:add site, add link, submit url, submit site, submit linkOutgoing linksOutgoing links refers to links pointing to other related sites from your site. Search engine spiders will crawl your site's outgoing links and determine that the content of the sites you link to are related to the content of your own site.Link keywordsIt is important to name your internal and outgoing links carefully. Since keywords play a major part in determining the relevancy of a Web page, it is essential that they are also included in link text.Link quality

The quality of the links is just as important, if not more, than the number of links to your site. The types of sites you should concentrate on getting links from include major search engines (Google.com), popular search portals (MSN.com), web directories (Yahoo.com and Open Directory Project - dmoz.org), high trafficked sites (eBay.com and Amazon.com), news sites (CNN.com), and sites related to your site's theme. The most important link building strategies includes:Marketplace understandingFirst try to understand your marketplace. Make a list of all the market sectors you service, ranking them in terms of their importance. Choose a minimum of 3-4 niches and make a list of 250 websites under each niches.

Go for link exchange only after this list is complete.Content is king...Content is what your potential customers will look for. It is content that will give your search engine rankings and would also help in getting links. There is no substitute for a good content, so unavoidable.Content and proper optimizationMake sure the contents on your website is optimized properly with proper focus on keywords and nice heading, title and description. If you lack time then better hire someone to do the same.online press releasesIssuing online press releases is more of a one-to-many approach. You submit your release to a newswire and they distribute your news to thousands of journalists and editors on their database. Such releases can be picked up and covered by both national and local media and are certainly worth.

Try Prweb.com or in the UK, Sourcewire.com.But perhaps the best way of getting media coverage quickly is to use the knowledge, experience and contacts collected by others. Eric Ward's URLWire.com service is the best.. Through many years of online promotion for clients, Ward has built an impressive opt-in list of over 19,000 journalists, website reviewers and writers.Monitor and evaluateAt the start of this article, I said that link building was not about the number of links you could get. Likewise monitoring and evaluating is not simply a matter of counting how many links you manage to get. What is really worth measuring is the benefit those links bring your business. So as a minimum you should measure:*

How much increased traffic comes from links* Which links bring the most traffic* How much does your search engine traffic* How much your sales increase as a result.About The Author:Matt Bacak became "#1 Best Selling Author" in just a few short hours.Recent Entrepreneur Magazine’s e-Biz radio show host isturning Authors, Speakers, and Experts into Overnight Success Stories.Discover The Secrets http://promotingtips.com

Distribute Content

Link Popularity: Distribute content, not just links.
Author: Robert Raught
You've spent many hours trying to increase your online traffic with your linking campaign. You've sent out 200 e-mails pleading with other web sites to trade links with your site. Many of your e-mails bounce back. The requests that find thier targets get rejected for numerous reasons. For example, your Google pagerank is too low or your links pages are dynamic and not static, etc., blah, blah, etc., ad nauseum.

Out of those 200 requests, you wind up getting 25 reciprocal links, if you are lucky. So, you say to yourself, "Great, now i have 25 more links!". But are these links really worth it? Do they generate any traffic? There are many reasons why your links won't even get counted or indexed by the search engines. If your link is on a page among 100 other links, or the page is irrelevant to your subject matter, the page probably won't hold much weight with most search engines. It's also rumored that Google is changing it's algorithm to discount reciprocal links altogether. So, what can you do to get your links indexed and noticed?

Write your own content, distribute it to article directories or trade it with other related websites! Here are 8 tips on increasing your online traffic with distributed content.
Try to write about popular content. The more popular it is, the more people will download it and want to include it on their websites and the more links you'll have pointing back to your site.
Try not to use any promotional jargon or sales pitches in your articles. If you do, many webmasters will not want to include your article on thier site.
Use plain English. Don't try to get too technical. Read it back to yourself and make sure you don't get tongue-tied while reading it.

If possible, work in your site's main keyword phrases into your articles. If your site is about online marketing, write articles about online marketing.
Make sure you include an "About the Author" section at the bottom. Make it somewhat short and always include a link back to your site in an anchor tag. And once again, include your keywords in the link text.

Proofread your article carefully. I see so many articles out there with misspellings. It just makes you look bad. After you spell check, have a friend or co-worker read it to double check for errors.
When you're finished with your article, submit it to popular article directories like goarticles.com, articlefactory.com, amazines.com and imparticles.com. For a fee, there are even services out there that will submit your articles to the top directories for you.

Make sure you publish your articles on your own website too, more content equals more traffic. Don't worry about getting penalized by search engines for having duplicate content. You only get penalized if the content is duplicated on your own domain, not if it's duplicated on other websites. So there you have it. Distributed content allows you to make every link count, by creating targeted links that directly contribute to your search engine rankings, and by delivering targeted traffic on it's own.

And besides, it might even make you famous!About the AuthorRobert Raught owns and operates an SEO firm based in Washington State and publishes daily news and articles in an RSS enabled blog titled The Optimizer.----Reprint and editing rights are granted to all parties if the About the Author section and accompaning links are not edited.----

10 Minutes to Your Google Sitemap...

10 Minutes to Your Google Sitemap...Copyright 2005 Ron HuttonGoogle's calling your name... Hi, Google here. We want to index your website...Is anyone there? This article has a free corresponding online video tutorial that shows you how to summons the magic Googlebot to spider and index every page on your website, and it will only take about 10 minutes of your time.Go here now to watch exactly what to do,step-by-easy-step...

What you have access to with the new Google Sitemapsprogram is truly a gift from the Google gods. They'veoffering you a tool that you can use to keep your site constantly indexed and updated in the search engine database. With Google Sitemaps, webmasters can now take charge and make sure that their entire site is crawled and indexed. One important note to make is that the Google Sitemapsprogram will not necessarily improve the ranking of yoursite's pages. It only ensures that Google knows what you'vegot online for them to look at.Before reading the following statement, promise yourselfthat you won't stop reading if you see a term that seems a little scary. OK? Promise? Good. Go ahead and keep reading then.

The format specified by Google for "their" sitemap is XML (extensible markup language). Did I loose you yet? No? Good again. You do not need to understand how to code XML toparticipate in the Google Sitemap program. There areplenty of free online tools that will create your XMLsitemap for you with no XML knowledge required on yourpart. More on this in a second. What information is including in this XML sitemap?1) The URL for every file on your website.2) A relative priority rank that you can assign tellingGoogle which pages on your site are most important for themto look at.3) The date last modified for each page.4) Anticipated change frequency per URL. This again is a variable that you control.

According to Google, your XML sitemap can include up to50,000 URL's. If your site is a real monster and has inexcess of 50,000 URL's, then you'll need to create ahierarchy of sitemaps with one leading to the next. Thisway you'll be able to lead Google to all of your pages. The options for generating and maintaining your GoogleSitemap range from complex systems that are highlyautomated to very simple systems using online sitemap generators that require nothing more than clicking a few buttons.

Google now keeps a list of these 'third party suppliers' of generators on their site. Find them here: http://code.google.com/sm_thirdparty.html The program that's demonstrated in our free video tutorial(http://www.gothrive.com/google-sitemap-video.htm) is foundhere: http://www.auditmypc.com/free-sitemap-generator.aspIn a nutshell, here are the steps involved with usingonline generators:1) Start the program. 2) Enter your site's URL 3) Click the "Start Crawling" button 4) Customize URL priorities and change frequencies 5) Save the site map to your local hard drive 6) Upload your new Google XML sitemap to your website inthe root directory (where your home page resides) 7) Validate your new sitemap (can be done here: http://www.smart-it-consulting.com/internet/google/submit-validate-sitemap/) 8) Submit your XML sitemap to Google. You can access the pages for the

Google Sitemap programhere: https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login8 steps in about 10 minutes. That's all there is to it.One question that you might ask is whether or not you still need an HTML sitemap, and the answer is "Yes, you still need your conventional sitemap". XML sitemaps are not intended for human visitors. To see what I mean, take a look at the two following sitemaps:HTML sitemap: http://www.gothrive.com/sitemap.htmlXML sitemap: http://www.gothrive.com/sitemap.xmlWhich version do you prefer? Your visitors will like theHTML and Google prefers XML. When you add pages or new content to your site and you want Google to go back to have a fresh look, just log in to your Google Sitemaps control panel, select the sitemap to revisit, and click "Resubmit".

It's never been easier to get Google to spider and index a website. Don't miss your opportunity to use this tool to your advantage.
