Search Engine Optimization - Only One Part Of A Successful Internet Marketing Strategy

Author: enigma valdez
Search Engine Optimization – Only One Part of a Succesful Internet Marketing StrategySEO (Search Engine Optimization) is not the means to an end. It should only be one part of your total Internet Marketing strategy. It is a fundamental part of your strategy and it is considered the baseline.High search engine ranks and listings can brand your website and drive a high awareness of your site. When search engine listings are within the first three, consumers are able to recall those sites at least 50% of the time. Banner ads and titles are usually ignored and avoided like the plague. In the years before the Internet explosion, businesses had to identify a market and craft their messages in such a way as to target those markets. They used mass medio to deliver these messages, hoping that the right person will read them and buy. Now things have changed. People are searching on the Internet for products, goods, and services. They are actively pursuing these online. When keywords are typed in that are relevant to your business, then these people are sent to your website. These are highly qualified leads, with a high conversion and response rate. Now the next step is to offer valuable web content. There is a saying, “content is king” and this is very true. People go to a website for the content. Your site has to be usable and it has to excite the user. You have to be able to balance usability and visibility of your website. You could have a perfect site with great content, but you must take care to make sure it can be found. Or you could be ranked number one on all of the major search engines, but when people get to your site, there is nothing useful on your site. Having useful web content and being visible go hand in hand. Using SEO as part of yoru overall brand and Internet marketing strategy will position you at the higher rankings of your industry. SEO Guidelines

SEO Guidelines –Search Engine Marketing

Author: Johnny Mayer
SEO guidelines also known as Search Engine Optimization set the rules used by major search engines like GOOGLE, Yahoo, and MSN, etc. to judge whether or not to include a website in their search engine results. Believe it or not , having your website included in Google results is not part of the Bill of Rights under the constitution.

There are Search Engine Marketing guidelines that govern which websites are included and those excluded from their results. SEO Guidelines – Thou Shall…Write your pages for people, not for search engines. It seems obvious, doesn't it? We have all gone to web pages with garbage content written to deceive search engines for top rankings.

When discovered (and they will be discovered), these websites are banned. Other SEO guidelines prohibit offering different content to search engines than your visitors. Called ""cloaking", it's unethical and another trick to avoid for high search engine rankings. Instead, focus on providing useful content your visitors are seeking and update your site frequently with fresh content. SEO guidelines - Thou Shall Not...Here are some important search engine optimization methods to avoid when using SEO methods on your website. These are unethical techniques that may lead to having your websites removed from the Google index. OUCH!!!

That hurts! Once banned, your site will not appear in GOOGLE results or partner sites. SEO guidelines clearly ban link farms that create multiple links to your site to raise your page rank by unethical means. Sooner or later your site will be caught and penalized for breaking SEO guidelines. In particular, avoid links to web spammers and software that auto submits your pages to search engines. SEO guidelines – Search Engine OptimizationCreate web pages free of hidden texts and links seen only by the search engines. Instead, use search engine marketing strategies without redirects to other sites. Instead of garbage content, search engine optimization promotes useful reader content.

Do you like to read the same thing again… read the same thing again… read the same thing again… neither does the search engine. After all, search engines are people too! Link Popularity

Link Popularity Strategy For New Sites

Author: Megrisoft Limited
The major factor for success on the Internet is link popularity. If you have good link popularity it can increase traffic to your web site by bringing high ranking on search engines. It is quite difficult task for a new site to build link popularity which has just born here we will discuss what strategy a new site should adopt to boost link popularity. First of all let's understand the meaning of link, link popularity and link exchange.

What is Link and Link Popularity? The link (hyperlink, or Web link) is a connection from one web resource to another. Internet begins with the hyperlink and a person go from one page to another page by clicking link. Links are the buttons and underlined text on web pages that take you to other pages on click.

What is Link Popularity?Link Popularity means how much you are known on the internet which can be measured how many sites or web pages linked to you. Link popularity is a measure of both the quantity and quality of sites that link to your site. Link Popularity is the number of quality hyperlinks pointed to your website.

What is Link Exchange? In Link Exchange basically, we exchange links - you add my link to your website and I will add your link to mine. It is a barter system give link and in return get link .By exchanging links, with theme based sites or authority sites you can increase your websites link popularity and which will results into increase of your website search engine rankings.
What are new site link exchange problems?

For new sites it is quite difficult to get linked with other sites. Even the google takes the site for indexing if it has got few inbound links from other websites. Google says "The best way to ensure Google finds your site is for your page to be linked from lots of pages on other sites..."In one of the reason for site not listed Google has explained:"If we have not picked up your site and it has been several months, then it is likely that our spiders are not able to find your site. If you increase the links pointing to the page, Google will likely find your site in the future. "It is clear that your site will not be listed on Google quickly. Search Engines usually takes news sites very fast if you are linked by other popular related web sites. Try to add your details i.e city, country name, interest and occupation in profile as it will make your theme based pages where all contents are related to you.

Search Engines and public relations

How Search Engines Have Changed Public Relations

Author: Joseph Pratt
How Search Engines Have Changed Public RelationsWhen it comes to Public Relations, the driving philosophy that underlies even the most minute aspect of a campaign is that perception equals reality. This is as true as ever in the Interactive Age because anyone with Internet access has the ability to voice his or her opinion on the World Wide Web.

Internet users now have the ability to present their opinions for public consumption on blogs as well as websites. Thanks to the advent of search engines, websurfers may access any perspective of the online debate (be it positive, negative, or indifferent) ranging in topic from iPods to real estate. Google has profoundly changed advertising on the internet as well. What distinguishes search from other online marketing strategies is that search provides each individual user with specific information based on their initial inquiry.

Often, this information comes from obscure corners of the Internet, thus giving strength to voices that may have gone unheard. This democratic media revolution brings new challenges for Public Relations- the art dedicated to communicating a business’s message to its audience. No longer is PR concerned with the relatively sparse inlets of effective television, radio and print – now, thanks to the Internet, Public Relations has to actually contend with …gulp …the public!

So it makes sense that PR efforts must now encompass the expanding world of search and, in order to survive in the marketplace, your business needs the PR benefits that come as a result. Search Engine Optimization should be utilized by Public Relations professionals to ensure the standards of their client’s image. A comprehensive PR strategy must incorporate search as a means of building or maintaining a client’s image. The survival of conventional PR then becomes a question of updated technology. When choosing a Public Relations company to help your business maintain an image, it is no longer a question of who has the longest track record, but who has the longest reach. If your PR company doesn’t have a search division of its own at its fingertips, don’t expect your campaigns to extend beyond the traditional paper and print.

In this sense, it was a natural extension of ICMediaDirect.com to announce its Public Relations division after the successes of its Search and Research divisions. Finding that much of the work performed for SEO and SEM was already inherently related to the new Search-influenced PR, the launching of a PR division in a company long familiar with the details of this industry is no surprise. How do they relate? Let’s take an imaginary attack on Sunshine Widgets. A disgruntled entity could simply start “blogging” against it. They could harp on a single unfortunate incident, or flat out tell lies about Sunshine Widgets, and its corporate ineptness.

It wouldn’t take much. Perhaps Sunshine Widgets runs TV and print ads. These efforts would be undercut by some chap with a blog running a disinformation campaign. Unfair accusations or charges would appear every time someone searches for ‘Sunshine Widgets’. No company, big or small, real or imagined, can afford bad press that pops up with every user search. At this point, the necessity for a comprehensive Public Relations strategy becomes clear.Sunshine Widgets could, through a practice commonly known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO), be proactive in asserting its corporate voice, thus re-asserting its sterling brand image.

The variety of interactive channels to engage in allows Sunshine Widgets greater ability to define its desired message. Here are the ways in which it would benefit from a search oriented Public Relations campaign in the face of these random blog attacks:• Blog search engines, like Technorati.com and Delicious.com, are growing rapidly in use and popularity. This suggests that online users, when looking for “what the real story is”, are curious not only as to “what people think” but also “when they think it.”

For example, there were a lot more ‘Sopranos’ searches on the day before the season premier than there were six months before – and blog searches give you the latest on what bloggers are currently writing, as opposed to search engines which may not take the information posting date into account. Therefore, through Search Engine Optimization, anyone searching the internet for ‘Sunshine Widgets’ would be returned information that is not only accurate with regard to content, but up to date as well.• Sunshine Widgets could issue press releases to announce company undertakings, strategies for the future, as well as past successes. Press releases are the most widely used means of communication employed by a company and are integral in shaping public perception of your brand. By distributing press releases online, a company has the ability to communicate its immediate message to millions of consumers instantly. • Sunshine Widgets could engage in a paid search (PPC) campaign to drive searchers to landing pages of Sunshine’s choosing.

While driving sales numbers becomes secondary to building brand image, a paid search campaign also fuels greater traffic to a company’s website, and the company that drives more users to its site helps shape its own reputation – and reputation, it bears repeating, is very important. These campaigns would all use different tools to achieve the same goal, better public corporate messaging. The benefits brought to the company would vary too. For instance, all of the content published on the web will not only “put the word out there”, but crowd out any negativity from some renegade’s message.

A single, angry blog will not be able to cloud a business’s message provided that company maintains an effective PR campaign. The many different messaging formats should insulate from this danger. While traditional media outlets are still the cornerstone of any successful PR campaign, The internet presents an unprecedented opportunity to reach consumers directly, and on an individual basis. Through an internet campaign, a company may not only protect its brand image against attack, but strengthen and widen its consumer base.

Consider the following statistic: a consumer is four times more likely to recount a negative experience with a company than a positive one. Now consider that a disgruntled consumer has had a negative experience with your company. Now, let us suppose that they write a daily blog encouraging other consumers to boycott your business. Finally, let us imagine that putting your company’s name into a search engine brings up said disgruntled consumer’s blog as the first search result.

Now, ask yourself, would you launch a traditional campaign (print, tv, radio) to reverse the damage done to your brand image, or would you stop the problem at its source through an online campaign? The answer is obvious, and any company that does not take the internet into account when formulating its PR strategy may as well post negative consumer criticism on its website- that’s practically what’s happening anyway.Joseph PrattMedia AnalystICMediaDirect.comhttp://www.icmediadirect.come: joseph@icmediadirect.com

Launch your site before it is finished

Launch your site, before it is finished

Author: Raoul Dobal
Launch your site, before it is finished. When you launch a site, you face three major problems: The search engines don't know you, the users don't know you and you might not have any meaningful amount of content. These problems can cost you time, before your site starts to pay off. Three solutions to hit the ground running on launch day.

Waiting for the search enginesTelling “Google” your new web-address is only getting you a spot in its sandbox. The sandbox is like a queue. You line up until your have gotten to the front-gate. Only if you are passed it, will your site be spidered. Word on the web is that this takes 6 months - regardless of how fancy your submission technique is.

There are of course other search-engines who process you faster. But can you afford not to be found in “Google”?Once your domain is listed, they need to be found by their spiders and ultimately by the user. Although your DNS entry should cascade very fast around the globe, there are bottlenecks. It can happen that you wait for the update a couple of weeks - regardless of your TTL-definition. Nearly unbelievable, but it happens. You should get a very wide dissemination within a few days, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Getting the users to the launch

Every web page is made for its visitors. If you don't get them, all your efforts and money spent have been in vain. Unless you have a substantial marketing-budget for your launch, it takes time for users to reach your site, to tell other people, to list it or to write about it in blogs. The shorter the time you need to reach that critical mass of users, the sooner your site pays off. Also you will quicker get to the point when it is really fun to look at your web-stats.Welcome to our empty pagesUsers will not repeatedly visit your site just because it is nicely designed and structured.

You need enough content already on launch-day to have something interesting for most of your visitors. Any “coming soon” on a fully operational site is very likely to be a frustration to the user. A database of 2 articles does not inspire confidence. It is like peeking into an empty restaurant on a Saturday night - you might think twice about even looking at the menu. Waiting for the search engines, having very few users visiting your site and not offering any content will unlikely result in a good start. “Under Construction” revisitedWhat was considered very bad form some years ago, might just be one way of solving the problems.

When development work begins, you need to set up a page or a mini-site. When search engines are visiting they have a place to go. At the same time it solves the DNS update delay you might encounter from some backbones. Unlike the classic “shovel and hard-hat” logo, even this simple page or site needs an identity and content. It will be visited and looked at by your potential costumers. Have you noticed how real-world construction-sites start to be tidy and nicely wrapped up - sometimes even following corporate design guidelines. Many people are walking past construction-sites - and they just might link the image of the company to the piles of bricks carelessly lying about.

Sometimes you even find a little description what the new store will look like, offer and when it will be opened - a smart move. The visual design can be much reduced, but still should convey the appropriate message. Have your designer create a layout, using your corporate identity or claims. The visitor, even the search-engine, should know on an emotional as well as a factual level what will be up and coming. The best thing would be to have some content available. Put up an article every week for example, a review, a recipe or whatever content is related to your site. This shows search-engines that something is happening; boosts your placement and the visitor sees some activity. And you will already have some content ready for the day your site goes really life.Getting the users to the launchThere is no other way but to directly address them. Most effective is some meaningful content, not simply a note that your site will start in three weeks time.

The indirect approach might work best. If you receive an email by someone you know or someone who has a positive reputation, it is likely to be read. Find some opinion-leaders related to your products or services. Maybe you can get this person to write content and distribute it to the community while linking to your site? You could organize an event together or simply ask for input - they might just have this great idea that you can use to make your site known before it is even fully life.

Blogs are often published by “opinion leader” and you can find them as strong voices in forums. The goal is to increase you link-popularity, get email-addresses and get access to a network of people who can avalanche information from your site to their communities. Having ContentIt is not likely to have on launch-day the same amount of content like a site that is already up for five years. But usually you only have one chance to interest and satisfy a fist-time user. One key element here is having content available. Empty article-listing or three reviews are simply not enough to interest me to delve into the site.

If you would launch a print-magazine, you would also have every page filled with the best content available - the same applies to the new site. Another advantage is that search engines love content - especially if it changes. If you have a reasonable turnover, your chances for a good ranking are high.If you can't create content in-house, articles and reviews are relatively easy to get. You can either peruse article directories or collaborate with blogs. The quality of the content reflects on your site. Editorial-work and selection is essential. A word of caution; It is easy to republish what is already out on the web. But original content is still best. Since you cater to the interests of your prospective visitors, the article you re-use was likely to have appeared on a site similar in target to your own. Quality over quantity is still what counts. Launching a site starts well before you put it online.

A well prepared launch will let you hit the ground running and might save months in getting the visitors you need.About The Author:Raoul Dobal focuses on usablilty and is partner of ADWIRED, a Swiss company specialised in webbased communication. Promote your website

How to Effectively Promote Your Website

Author: maricon williams
So, you have been worrying to much about your website. Is it doing pretty badly? Well, to sooth your brain, relax your muscles and reduce the wrinkling of your forehead and in order for you to have an untroubled sleep, I will give you some hints to effectively promote it with hits at your advantage. 1. Take advantage of the search engines. Submit your site to search engines. There are those that offer services free of charge.

You can submit to Google, Yahoo, Altavista, Infoseek, Lycos and other trusted search engines. You can submit with an interval of 3 to four months. Try a redirection, if you cannot submit the real URL.2. Do some reciprocal linking. This is one of the best ways to lead viewers towards your website. In this method, you exchange link with other websites. That way no site is disadvantaged. To find sites, you can again use the search engines.3. Exchange banners.

This is also one of the most productive ways to promote your website. However, they do not bring much traffic. Choose wisely when deciding banner ratios. Some sites are also offering paid banner submission. Decide on the matter cleverly. Select the ones with good traffic to influence your traffic as well.4. Write articles and press releases. People wants to read news and tips more than reading ads. Moreover, a good number of articles and news releases with your website as footer is a promotional tool. Submit them to high-ranking sites in order to market your site.5. Use meta tags. Always use the same on your site especially on the index page.

The essence is that when search engines add up your homepage to their database, what they will look for is a special tag with keywords and description of the page. Give your title, description and keywords to make it easier for the search engines to locate you.6. Patronize online classifieds. Millions of online ads programs are available in the net. Choose a category where your site belongs and add your site. Resubmit every 2 months to update them.7. Make signatures. Use signatures which are linked to your websites. You can use these signatures when posting a reply in forums, chat rooms and guest books.8. Maximize webrings. This is also a productive way of promoting. All you have to do is to find and join webrings which are similar to the topics in your site.

They will bring in slow but stable traffic.9. Do some promos. Promotions like discounts can be a tempting strategy that can boost both your traffic as well as sales.Promote your site and be productive like you never been before. Be Captured by Search Engines

How To Be Captured By Search Engines

Author: maricon williams
Being captured by the search engines means a lot. It spells having a lucrative site. This is the very reason why web development is pretty crucial to a site. Moreover, every owner of the site must be knowledgeable and resourceful to know and find ways to keep his website flourishing and coping with the changes of the modern times.

Here are some of the tips make your website tempting to the search engines:1. In connection with meta tags, do not use same words more than thrice. Bear in mind that most engines are case sensitive so be cautious of that fact. 2. If possible, use your keywords in your links.3. Place your keywords at the top of the page. Practice proximity in them. The closer they are to each other, the better.4. Back up the keywords found in your meta tags by placing them in the contents.

In order for your keywords to be considered by search engines, said keywords must appear both in the meta tags and the body of the page. 5. Put your keywords in your title, meta description, meta keywords and body tags. You can use five of these keywords in your body tag. Use of more than five keywords will result to spamming. If this happens, chances are, you are at risk of being kicked out of the engine.6. Also place keywords in your Alt tags.7. Think of a keyword that is not used by your competitors. Nonetheless, be sure that it is still connected to your site and your topic. Also, make sure that it is specific.8. Another instance of spamming is when you use texts having the same color as your background.

This thing should be avoided not only does it ruin the form and function of the site but it also gives the search engines the reason to kick you out.9. Another opportunity for search engines to kick a website is when the latter submits page more than twice a day. 10. One thing that can make your website a search-engine friendly site is to make a doorway page in order to rank higher in the search engines.11. Another thing is to have links to other good sites so that together you all boost each other’s web development and ranking potentials.12. To rank even more, be sure to update some of your pages every 30 days. 13. Some search engines are choosy. In fact, they can tend to overlook a site with fast ‘meta refresh pages. Thus, avoid having the same. There you go! Maximising Keyword Matching

Maximizing Keyword Matching for Seach Engines

Author: Stephen Wright
Copyright 2006 Stephen WrightIf you are like most internet marketing entrepreneurs these days, you are taking full advantage of advertising with the major search engines to increase the amount of traffic coming to your site. After all, even if you have the greatest product around, the best website layout and design going - if you don’t have traffic coming to your site--it’s “just a pretty site”. Getting traffic to your site has to be a high priority to be successful on the internet. Advertising campaigns on the major search engines is a major strategy and technique of getting that traffic to your site.So one you’ve made that decision, you are quickly faced with the next challenge. It simply not as easy as it might sound.

Sure, if you have the money, you can immediately get millions of hits coming to your site. Getting targeted traffic quickly becomes your next big challenge. After all, the secret to this type of advertising is reducing your cost-per-click (CPC) and maximizing (increasing) your overall return-on-investment (ROI).The best technique to achieve this is proper application of “keyword matching” options. There are four different methods of making sure your ad campaign is targeted to your intended audience and potential clients. These are: broad match, phrase match, exact match, and negative keyword matching. A general description of each is as follows:Broad Match:

As a starting place, broach matching is the default option for most of the search engines (such as Google, Yahoo, etc). When you include a general keyword or keyword phrase in your keyword list your ads will appear and return several variations of the search term. For example if a user’s query contained baseball cap, the ads would return the words baseball and cap, in any order, and possibly other terms. The ads will also automatically show up for expanded matches (including plural variations of the terms). Because broad matches are sometimes less targeted than exact or phrase matches, you should create keyword phrases containing at least two descriptive words each.

You can also try the keyword tool and the other three matching options to further refine your targeting. Finally, keep in mind that other advertisers may have bid for the same broad-matched keyword combinations that trigger your ads, increasing your actual CPC amounts. Using exact, phrase, or negative matches can help you keep your costs low. Phrase Match - If you enter your keyword in quotation marks, as in "baseball cap," your ad will appear when a user searches on the phrase baseball cap, in this order, and possibly with other terms in the query. For example, your ad will appear for the query fitted baseball cap but not for caps for baseball.

Phrase matching is more targeted than broad matching, but slightly more flexible than exact matching. To ensure your ads are as targeted as they can be, you may want to include at least two descriptive words in your keyword phrases.Exact Match - If you surround your keywords in brackets-such as [baseball cap]-your ads will appear when users search for the specific phrase baseball cap, in this order, and without any other terms in the query. For example, your ad won't show for the query fitted baseball cap. Exact matching is the most targeted option.

Although you won't receive as many impressions with exact matching, you'll likely enjoy the most clicks, because users searching for terms in this manner typically want precisely what your business has to offer.Negative Keyword - If your keyword is baseball cap and you add the negative keyword -fitted, your ad will not appear when a user searches on fitted baseball cap. You can apply this option for a keyword at both the Ad Group and campaign level.

And if you think about it - it is a “win/win” situation for you and the potential clients who are not being taken by the search engines to sites that are unrelated to what they were searching for in the first place. Since you gain no benefit from paying for clicks by internet searchers that are not interested in your products/services ---it becomes an ideal situation for both you and your potential clients. Being aware of and properly applying these simple techniques will ensure that you get the greatest bang for your advertising buck, while increasing your “targeted” traffic. To learn more about the benefits of keyword matching options, look for the frequently asked question section of the search engine application you are using.------

Free SEO – The Do It Yourself Approach

Author: Derek Moore
Did you ever wonder about making your site more appealing to the Search Engines? Did you get scared off by the high fees that SEO specialists charge for their services? If you answered yes to each of these questions, then I have some good news for you. There are only a few very effective ways to get good search engine rankings.
The techniques are not very hard to learn and only really require time and patience on your part. Let’s get started….Domain NameThe trick here is to register a domain name your customers can remember and the search engines think is relevant. Use words in your domain name that describe your product or service. For example, don’t call your site www.derekspage.com if you sell pink widgets.

You would be better off calling your site www.bestpinkwidgets.com.Title TagSearch Engines value the contents of the Title Tag when ranking your site for keywords. Put your most important keywords in your title tags, using singular and plural versions of each word. Make your tags different and specific for each page on your site.

For example, "Pink Widgets and Pink Widget Support". The Title Tag should be a short logical description of your web page.Header TagsThe description Meta tag is still used by many (not Google) search engines and is often used for displaying a short description of your website. Use about 20 to 30 words to describe your site and be as comprehensive as possible in the small space allowed. Try using your important keywords within the description tag.

The keyword Meta tag is rarely used and should not be considered very important. Just put your important keywords in this space and move on to more important optimization issues.Image ALT TagsThe ALT tag is used for a very short description of an image or graphic file, and is displayed when your mouse pointer hovers above a graphic. Using your important keywords in the image description has been shown to have a small effect with some search engines. Keyword densityDifferent search engines have their own preferences as to how many times a keyword phrase can appear on a given web page in order to demonstrate the importance of that keyword phrase.

You should try and make sure that your important keywords have a 5 to 8 percent density in your site. If you keywords have higher than 10 percent density, it may be considered as keyword spamming or stuffing. (This will hurt your search engine rankings dramatically) Use the H1 and H2 heading tags to elevate your important keywords within your site. The keywords contained in these tags are considered slightly more important by search engines. Inbound LinksGetting inbound links should be considered your most important SEO strategy. Search Engines will rank your site based on the number and quality of inbound links to your site. Links from other highly ranked sites are more valuable and will increase your sites ranking. Contacting other website owners and asking them to exchange links with you is a good strategy.

The sites linking to you should not be your competitors, but should be related to your site. For example, a bike repair shop would benefit by exchanging links with a bike trail site. Page Rank is a good indication of how valuable a site would be as a link exchange partner. Yahoo and Google each have a page ranking system. When arranging a link exchange, make sure that your important keywords are included in the anchor text. Search engines use anchor text when they try to figure out the relevance and importance of your web pages.Resource:

SEO fertile fields

Search Engine Optimization’s a Fertile Field

Author: Mark Nenadic
Copyright 2006 Mark NenadicSearch engine optimization is a phrase that is bandied about every day on the Internet. In the decade since the Internet superhighway began to generate as much if not more business than hanging out a shingle, search engine optimization has become a vital and growing field. So how does one make a web page compliant with search engine optimization? One method is search engine copywriting.

The copy is generated based on the idea that it reads well for someone surfing the web. By reading well, it means the text reads enough to keep the reader scanning and clicking on the page.Is there a downside to search engine optimization? An ethical SEO company will be straight about the following ups and downs in the search engine optimization business. The first downside of search engine optimization is related to the differences in search engines.Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta Vista, Starware and many more utilize different algorithms to produce their page rankings.

In the early days of the Internet, Meta tags were the ideal behind search engine optimization. The Meta tags were embedded in the web design html, listing the ‘searchable’ terms that the web page was keyed to. For example, a web page on pets may have had cats, kitty, kittens, dogs, puppies, and litter in their Meta tags. Those words were the searchable terms that the page referred to.Meta Tags were great, make no mistake, but they were infinitely abused.

A designer could plop down any terms they wanted into the Meta tags and the search engines could deliver the page no matter the content. The sophisticated algorithms of today are designed to avoid those pitfalls and traps. Instead, by building the design and the content around search engine optimization, when a search engine delivers a page: it usually contains information that the searcher was looking for. However, there is a cost and limitation to using copywriting for search engine optimization. First of all, it is very time consuming.

Yes, anyone can just sit down and generate a page of copy. The average copywriter can probably type up 350 words in less than an hour. They can likely layer the search engine optimization terms in during that initial draft, no problem. What happens when optimizing a site requires 100 pages of text? 800 pages? 1000 pages? That one-hour can become literally hundreds of hours of time and energy. Professional copywriters have made a science out of generating good, clean copy, but they are not cheap. The average copywriter will charge by the word, not the page.

A lot of companies would prefer to pay by the page.In most businesses, the higher the quantity would generate a lower price. However in search engine optimization copywriting, the larger the quantity, the more the work. Generating ten to twenty pages of copy surrounding similar search terms without plagiarizing or creating repetitive text is not only difficult, it’s mind-numbing.Quality counts and quality copywriters will generate quality search engine optimization text. When it comes to building a website based on search engine optimization and quality content, the professional copywriter is an invaluable resource. Be prepared for the investment. Be prepared for the day when the search engines alter their algorithms to tweak them and this process is repeated.

Keeping the surfer engaged is great, that is only part of the purpose of writing that is part of search engine optimization. The second, primary part of these types of articles is to target specific search terms. By building the articles around these specific types of terms, it is possible to elevate the page rank of the particular page and overall site in a search engine. The nature of a search engine’s algorithm is a zealously guarded secret. Search engine optimization copywriting works because it creates genuine content versus nonsense information interspersed by searchable terms.

Building around these terms sounds simple, but the elements of the page are as important as the content itself.Developing the copy for search engine optimization can often require a professional copywriter. They possess the skills to write interest-generating content that can be layered around searchable terms. The content that works best often features more than just one set of searchable phrases. By strategically placing searchable terms within the content, the copywriter will provide the website with page ranking on those key terms.

Ultimately, search engine optimization works because the number of searchable terms on the Internet is huge. However, search engine optimization works because while it may improve rankings on one search engine it does not work as well across all search engines. As the search engines tune their algorithms, so page ranks shift.

This is a constant, evolving business and competitiveness involved in search engine optimization continues to grow.------Mark NenadicMark is the director and face behind FifteenDegrees-North http://www.15dn.com , where you will find articles and resources to help with SEO, marketing and Web design.

Ill Effect of automated submissions

Ill effects of automated submissions:

Author: Wendy Mcleon

Actually automated submissions are a complete no no if you want your website to have a good positioning in search engines. Automated submissions create more harm than advantages. Major Search engines and directories like Google and domz does not allow automated submissions at any cost. And all other search engines also prefer manual submissions. The automated submissions software can only fill out the submission form automatically but this is not enough for search engine and directory submissions.

The most important step involved in submissions is to select the most relevant category. This can no be done by automated soft wares. Automated submissions can also lead to server overload and vulnerability to denial of service attacks hence manual submission is considered better much better than automated submissions even though it is time consuming.

The time spent in manual submissions is worth it because your website is sure to start receiving good quality visitors once it is indexed by the search engines and directories.Article written by WendyWeb Design Experts LasVegas

Central Nic Domains

Central Nic Domains

Author: Mark Lawson
Now is the time for Webmasters to get in on Central nic domain names! That’s right—thanks to the availability of central nic domain names, all webmasters can get a chance to get the domain name they desire by registering for a domain name with any registrar that handles central nic names. Think about it; registering for a central nic domain name has so many advantages. Let’s take a look at the many benefits of registration below:1.Central nic is a domain registry offering alternative to the TLD and Country level domains. If you missed out on your chance to get the domain name you desired, now you are offered a second chance to get in on the action. Get the domain name you want with a .com extension!2. uk.com, gb.com, .eu.com, and more are all available from domain registrars. Thus, if you missed out on your opportunity to get a .uk, .gb, or a .eu domain name, you will get a second chance to get the domain name you desire when you register for a central nic domain.3.If you are set on a name that has been taken by another Webmaster, a Central nic name can be a good alternative.

With a Central nic domain name you can still get the domain name you want with the added commercial extension. Don’t settle for a second choice domain name—get your central nic domain name precisely the way you want your domain name to be.4. The commercial extension in a central nic domain name is already well established. So many websites on the Internet use .com extensions that it has become a near universal aspect of many domain names.

Plus, the short extension is unobtrusive—it does not hurt the overall length of your domain name—nor does it decrease the effectiveness of a central nic domain name.5. Using keywords in a domain is useful for SE purposes—yet, it can be difficult to get a domain name that is keyword enriched if the applicable domain names are already taken. Now, with our central nic domain name offerings, you get another great opportunity to get a keyword enriched domain name that will immediately improve your search engine ranking.6. With a short commercial extension, Webmasters will still have a domain address that is easy to remember.

You don’t have to worry about compromising a memorable domain address—the .com extension is easy to remember and hardly increases the length of a domain name at all. In fact, with so many domain names ending in .com, the commercial extension is almost expected by web users.7. Registering for a central nic domain name now will ensure that you get in on the most popular domain names available. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to get the most popular domain names available. Popular domain names that draw significant traffic to websites will disappear quickly.

Thus, the sooner you register for your central nic domain name, the better your chances will be that you get the exact domain name that you desire.8. Beat the rush—you already know that on April 7, 2006, the Landrush phase for .eu domain names will commence. Why submit an application in hopes that you will be able to get the domain name you desire. Instead, secure a central nic domain now with a .com extension and ensure that you get the domain name you want. Thus, while everyone is struggling to get in on the .eu domain names, you will be ahead of the game when you register for your central nic domain name.9.

Whether you want to establish a business website or a personal website, there is no restrictions when you apply for a central nic domain name. That’s right; anyone can apply for a central nic domain name, even if their website is not for commercial use. No need to wait for the proper time to submit your application—if you want to register for a central nic domain name you an do so right now—today, this very minute!10.

Why wait until April when Eurid opens to the public, to get your domain name, when you can register for a central nic domain name and get your domain name quickly? Now is the time to get in on all of the central nic domain names available—the more time you spend delaying—the lower your chances are for getting in on the most popular central nic domain names.

Getting the Right Domain Name

Getting the Right Domain Name

Author: Adrian Lawrence
Getting the Right Domain Name.Once you are comfortable with working online, you should buy a domain name for your site or sites. Domain name registration, if you do it right, is one of the key components of having your site rate high in the search engines. The right domain name is memorable, and can get your site to rank higher than other names. The wrong domain name won't do you any good at all.The Basics of Domain Name RegistrationThe first thing you have to do is come up with a good domain name for registration. Don't even think about a one-word domain name; they're all gone at this point.

Instead, come up with dual-word combos. If you're putting together a professional site, try your name before anything else.Don't get fancy with spelling when selecting your domain name registration, or use 2s and 8s to represent their sounds. You can try the number 1; that sometimes works. You can also try the names of products you offer, or a description of your site content offerings: Romanceforgirls, popcornpalace, fluffykittens. Memorable is always better; short and memorable is best, but very difficult to accomplish.Come up with a couple of dozen names that will do for your site, and test them on a registry. Don't buy a domain name for which the .com extension is gone, but you have access to the .net or .info.

These domain names are not by any means as valuable as the .com. If you pick up the .com, though, and you expect the site to be lucrative or have a lot of competition, it's not a bad idea to pick up the other extensions as well. Domain name registration is NOT expensive, and if you register in bulk you can get an even better price. The .UK ExtensionThis doesn't mean you should avoid anything but .com. If you have a business in the United Kingdom, you have access to the .uk domain name set, which UK customers are likely to look at before anything else for UK-specific businesses.

If you anticipate most of your business will come from British customers who are aware your business is in Britain, the .uk extension may be a better choice than the .com; and if your customers are unhappy with Internic's control of Internet domain registration or they are very pro-Britain, the .uk extension is certainly a better choice. If you're fortunate enough to find both extensions for your domain open, and if you run a British company, it doesn't cost much to buy them both, and you definitely should. It also gives your online presence an immediate “identity” geographically which can be crucial in building online relationships- where trust is a key component. By being a .UK domain, you are very likely to gain UK clients. The .UK domains market is one of the fastest growing and lucrative registration areas on the internet.Tips for Domain Name RegistrationHave a website ready to plunk into your domain as soon as you buy it, and submit it immediately to the search engines. The search engines take time to index new sites and your domain name registration is only as valuable as the search engines make it.

You can also have more than one domain name pointing at a single site. If you've bought multiple extensions for your domain name (as in the previously-suggested .com/.uk combination), you can set up your site under one domain name and then direct traffic from the others to the main site. This is called web traffic forwarding and has been around for years. It may be as simple as parking your domain name on a server and putting a line of code on the page, or as complex as going through another website to use their online web forwarding services. When you do register a domain and start building traffic to it, go out and renew for multiple years before your renewal is due.

It is surprisingly easy to forget to register your domain name on time, and if someone else sneaks in and registers it, you've just lost a ton of work on that domain.By making your domain name memorable, you will help other webmasters remember your site easily when building anchor texts in their links- a crucial component of SEO.Final tip: don’t just think about price when looking for a domain registration company- also think about quality of service. While you shouldn’t be paying over the odds, it really is better to be safe than sorry and go with the more established registrars. Then you can have peace of mind that should any problems arise, you will be well looked after.

Intro to SEO

Introduction to Search Engine Optimization

Author: Lee Schmidt

IntroductionImagine that you would like to find information on red widgets. Since you don't know any online resources for red widgets, you will have to use a search engine. How will you do this? Most likely you will use either Google, Yahoo, or MSN. After searching, you will see a number of different things on your screen. The top section of your results will most likely display pay-per-click ads. This simply means that any link you find here was put here by somebody paying for it. You will also find these ads usually running down the right side of the screen. However, the largest section of the results page is in the center, where you will find the natural search engine results. You notice that there are thousands, if not millions of results returned. Each individual search engine must have a way of ordering these websites in order to display the most relative results to you.

This is where the term search engine optimization (or SEO) comes in. This leads us to the first frequently asked question. What is SEO?Search engine optimization is the art of employing certain methods which, in the end, have the intent to move your own website as high as possible in the search results for specific keywords or keyword phrases. This is also what is meant when you hear ads about "boosting your ranking" or something similar. These methods cover a wide range of factors, including both on-site optimization and off-site optimization.

What is also interesting about search engine optimization is that there really are very few objective factors which affect your rankings. Webmasters and SEOs have a pretty good idea of what factors have at least minimal impact on your rankings - but the significance of each factor is largely disputed. So why do you hear about SEO firms and companies that claim to be able to help your ranking? Many theories on search engine optimization are actually theories.

Meaning, they have actual data to back up any conclusions. Other than the largely accepted theories, different people develop their own hypothesis on what they feel to be important. These are often supported by many different SEOs but often do not have any evidence or data to back it up.How do you know what to do?Google, the single largest and most used search engine, has provided webmasters with quality guidelines for getting your site included in their results. This should be the most basic set of guidelines any webmaster should follow. There are, however, many factors which the majority of search engine optimizers agree on. These factors are based on research, observation, and accounts of experiences from webmasters and search engine optimizers. What are the factors?Although this list could be overwhelmingly long, the factors below are a brief list of basic factors which are known to have some type of effect on website ranking. Keep in mind, that each search engine most likely weights each factor differently, which is partly why you see different results at Google, Yahoo, and MSN. More information on how to optimize these factors can be found in the articles section....The full version of this article (3 pages) is here: SEO FAQ This article is free for republishing

Add RSS feeds

How to Add RSS Feeds in Five Minutes or Less

Author: Kit Elliott
I’m here to teach you about how RSS Feeds can boost traffic for your website. You may have heard of it, but I guarantee you are not harnessing the full power of the tool. RSS Feeds are very hot, and the marketing pro’s are getting their websites listed in Google within 2 to 3 days. What is an RSS Feed? RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication.” Think of RSS this way: Whenever a writer who belongs to a syndicate writes a column, they don’t just write it for their local paper, every article goes up on the newswire and any paper who belongs to the syndicate can reprint it. First, you have to download an RSS Reader, a program that combines all the news online in one place.

You can download a reader for free at www.RssReader.com. Once you’ve downloaded a reader, you can click any topic that suits your need, and only those topics will be delivered right to you.. Why would I put RSS on my website? An RSS feed can be thought of like this. Let’s take five news sources (Yahoo, MSN, CNN, ESPN, FOX). An RSS reader would scan all five news sources and take each headline and create a summary of the article. Now, you can actually sort the news stories and have only the ones you are interested in delivered right to your website from all five news sources. Search Engines are crawling websites and looking for fresh content. If you have an RSS Feed, you are getting up to the minute news stories. These constantly change whenever a new story comes out.

The Search Engines will give you a higher Page Rank because it thinks your page is updated on a regular basis. How do I add one to my website? I tried an RSS Feed for the first time, and it took less than five minutes. Here’s what it looks like: Bush Celebrates Shuttle's Launch (AP) NASA sends shuttle back into space after long pause (Reuters) Shuttle Discovery Blasts Into Orbit (AP) NASA's aging workhorse returns to space (AFP) NASA Returns to Flight as Discovery Reaches Orbit (SPACE.com / LiveScience.com)

As you can see, this is my very first RSS Feed. All the news stories within the last hour regarding the shuttle launch are now listed for me and my visitors to read. Guess what? It took less than 5 minutes, and I instantly have an RSS Feed. Why do I need one? Search Engines are crawling your site and if you are not providing quality, up to the minute content then you are getting placed further down the rankings.

Your competition who has this information is getting FREE advertising from the Search Engines who are placing their page 1st or 2nd when users search for a particular keyword. How do I put an RSS Feed on my site? You can now place an RSS Feed on your website in THREE easy steps. • Step 1: Search for topics that you are currently interested in (use Yahoo). When you see an orange RSS or XML box like the one above, you know that article is compatible with a feed. Copy the URL of the webpage. • Step 2: Go to http://www.feeddigest.com and paste the URL in the digest for them to create a two line code for your webpage. You can also copy and paste the long page of code if you understand programming. • Step 3: In Frontpage, Go to Insert - a web component - html markup and paste the two or three line script that RSS Digest gave you. Check it out! Your first RSS Feed! Try it yourself right now, create your first RSS feed in under five minutes, FREE! The only way you can truly learn about them is for you to JUMP in FEET FIRST! One Way links

One Way Links : The New Generation of Links

Author: Ispas Marin

For the past few years search engine traffic has become the most targeted. Just think about this: a site without traffic it's dead site. And the best way to get good targeted visitors are search engines. So if a site ranks well in search engines then i can ensure you that it's not dead. The most important and popular search engines are Google, Yahoo and MSN. This search engines include in their search algorithms link popularity. So you can consider inbound links as some kind of votes in the favor of your site.

So the main idea is that if you have many links that point to your site from pages with related topics you will rank well in search engines. But, in time search engines updated their algos and now they evaluate all the links. For a very long period of time all the webmasters did al they could to trade links. But now, because of the new search engine algorithms, reciprocal links are not powerful. This is the point where one way links appear. This are the new powerful and useful links. One way links have many advantages over reciprocal links.

The first and most important plus for this kind of links is that you won't have to worry anymore about linking back to a "bad neighborhood". So buying one way links will really help your site to rank well and you won't have any problems with bad seo. Also one way links usually stay in place for a very long period of time. If a webmaster puts a links that points to your site on his website, this means that he likes your site's content and he wants to offer it to his visitors too.So, because the links will be on related pages each one way inbound link will tell the search engines that your site is valuable and deserves the link.In conclusion you can think that one way links are the new generation of links.

SEO Myths

Breaking SEO Myths Part One: The SEO Expert

Author: Daniel Dessinger

Could there be another industry more inflated by ego, misinformation, and repetition than search engine optimization? Perhaps there are a few others out there, but not many. But what else can one expect from an unregulated industry? There's no FCC, FTC, FEC, FMC, FERC, HIPAA, ATF, SEC, FAA or any other acronymed agency standardizing legitimate SEO practices.Search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask Jeeves each have their own secret algorithms which mathematically select, arrange, and prioritize search results. No two search engines work the same.

No two search engines yield exactly the same search results (unless they are actually powered by the same search engine but packaged under different names). No SEO “expert” or firm knows all of the search engines’ secrets. So how do they write so many articles, blogs, and forums with such authority? And why are the ones pinky swearing that they’re honest only telling you enough to maintain enough mystery to keep you relying upon their expertise and yet still wondering what the heck they are doing behind those closed doors? Am I saying that they’re all scam artists? No. Many of them aren’t. But even the ones who are legit are still count on an air of mystery and difficulty to keep the client from demanding too many specific answers. Why? Because if these search engine specialists revealed all that they know to a client, they know that an intelligent client would be unimpressed.

The truth is that most companies could perform their own SEO and be quite successful. There are exceptions, like the home mortgage industry. Certain industries are so competitive in organic search that most companies will not be able to compete even with professional natural SEO services. So why should a company hire an SEO professional? In my opinion, such contracting of services only makes sense when a company either has enough money to throw around or they have much more important tasks for their own employees to perform. I compare it to online grocery shopping – it saves you time and effort, but unless you’re disabled, filthy rich, or ungodly busy it is not a cost effective option. Of course, I’m not going to begrudge anyone the opportunity to sub out a service they do not feel comfortable with performing themselves. Every executive has the right to decide which is more valuable to the company in this situation: time or money.

I understand that, and I also respect a person who focuses on contributing their strengths rather than faking strengths that eventually cost the company due to incompetence and pride. You will find those same types of people in the search engine marketing profession. Men and women have forged careers in search engine marketing because they learned how to retell someone else’s stories and to write “new” articles containing recycled information. Those types are actually better at sales and personal PR than SEO. So what exactly makes a person an SEO expert? Seriously. Don't accept someone's claims without critically examining them. There's no federal or industry-wide standard. So who makes an expert an expert? What’s the difference between an expert and an expert fake? And how can you tell one from the other? It's a slippery slope. Sadly, it is an industry where many companies profit from client ignorance. Am I going to present clear-cut evidence here of my claims? Not a chance. I don't have to, and I don’t want to make any specific enemies.

I learned what I know by studying SEO online wherever I could because I was trying to join the industry. What I realized through my extensive online reading and professional relationships is that a good humble businessperson is always more trustworthy and reliable than a self-proclaimed expert. Humility is key. Use your discernment. If you don't believe me, subscribe to a few SEO newsletters and catch up on your SEO articles. See for yourself if you don't read the same thing over and over, only presented in a different order or from a different angle. Study which groups or individuals support and compliment each other in SEO articles, forums, and blogs. Notice how they build a castle of thoughts out of thin air. In this industry, some will corroborate each other if it means reinforcing the fuzzy logic that has benefited their own business.

The lack of fresh information is fairly convincing evidence that search engine optimization and keyword research are not all that complicated. If they were, the experts wouldn't have to recycle to put out new articles and blogs. For all of you still willing and ready to hire an SEO professional, all I ask is that you make an educated decision based on research. And always check with clients the firm claims to have serviced. Find out if they were really a client, what type of service they received, and if they were satisfied with that service. And, of course, make sure you aren’t verifying one firm with one of their bread-and-butter partners. Remember, things are not always what they appear. If you keep these basic considerations in mind, you should do well when choosing the right SEO professional. Daniel Dessinger is a copywriter in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. Author: Michelle McClory
Traffic -- And lots of it! It is the dream of every netrepreneur. After all, without steady stream of visitors -- or should I say “potential customers” to your web site, how will you earn your e-fortune?The first place most e-business start-ups go when they need a quick traffic fix is the search engines. And rightfully so! After all, a top ranking position in one of the major search engines is an effective way to increase the traffic to your web site without spending your hard-earned advertising dollars!Statistics have repeatedly shown that anywhere from 20% to 80% of your visitors will find your web site via a search engine.

However, you should also know that statistics show that most web surfers never search beyond the top 30 results they receive. With that in mind, it is clear that a top position a top position should be the goal of any savvy site owner. But top spots are no longer achieved by crossing your fingers and blindly submitting your web site to 900+ search engines and directories using a free submission service. Competition for top spots is getting fierce, so it is important that you learn the “right” techniques if you want to ensure that your web site is well ranked... and it is very important that you do so while this great advertising medium is still FREE!As I said before; for high traffic generation to your website, it is very important that your web site ranks in top spots in search engines.

You may ask “What are the search engine looking for when they rank my web site?” Well, although each search engine uses different set of algorithms to rank web sites, but generally speaking, however, here are some of the main factors currently being considered by the search engines.1. Link PopularityAlta Vista, Excite, Lycos, and the web pages search promotion of Yahoo! use a ranking system that involves measuring and ranking the number of links that are directed towards a particular web site.

This is an extremely powerful traffic generation tool because: Reason # 1Building a well thought-out linking strategy is a powerful way to attract large volumes of targeted traffic! By putting your web site on every major web “intersection” where your target market meets, you will ensure that your web site receives a steady flow of qualified potential customers.Reason # 2Links are equivalent to recommendations! They established credibility even before the visitor reaches your web site, dramatically increasing the likelihood that they will buy.Think about it... David arrives at his favorite web site and notices that they have posted a link to your web site. He knows and trusts his favorite web site and therefore assumes that, because they have a linked to you, your business must be credible too.

He clicks through the link to your web site and is immediately open to offers you present him with. Why? Because your credibility was established before he even arrived at your homepage!Reason # 3Since many search engines now factor link popularity into their ranking decisions, your linking strategies are all that much more important! If you want to be ranked as high as possible in search engines, you now need a factor in your link popularity – and, as you already know, earnings a top spot in the major search engines is key to increasing your web site traffic.Obviously, developing a linking strategy that generates a high volume of targeted traffic to your web site is not an overnight process.

It will take you anywhere from two weeks to six months to secure quality links you need. However, I promise you that it is worth the effort! Once you have done the initial footwork, the links that are established will remain on these web sites for years to come. Your perseverance will pay big dividends in the form of a continuous flow of targeted traffic generation.2. Your Domain NameA domain name plays a vital role in traffic generation to any web site. Domain names rich in keywords will rank higher in search engines because search engines love URL’s that are saturated with keywords!

Brainstorm keywords and key phrases for your web site and then use them to create a catchy URL... or load the domain name with your best keywords to get ranked higher in the search engines. 3. Key Word DensityKeywords definitely refer to the number of times your keyword appears throughout your site. Your keyword density is a factor that is heavily weighted by search engines, so it’s very important to make strategic use of your keywords. So, these are the golden facts and tactics through which you can drive high traffic to your web site. I should also mention that you do not expect to enter a couple of your top keywords into the search engines and instantly start making money through your web site--- that is very rare. But yes, you can really make high traffic through search engines without crossing the line into “keyword stuffing” and with a little time.

The key words and the content have to flow together. For example, if you write about dog grooming and switch to a few cat grooming examples, you may defeat your SEO efforts. If you write for the search engine like you were talking to a ten year old, you'll probably get much higher SEO results. Meta Tag Mania - SEO StrategyThere are tons of meta tag how to's to read and confuse you. Here's a tip for writing better meta tags - pretend you're asking them out on a date and just say what you have to say without all the bull corn.

For example, "I'm ah, going to be in the area this evening, and wonder if you would ahh. oh yeah and I just rebreed something... ah, what was I trying to say is ahh, there's a nice film tonight if you would like to ah... Now compare that speech that never got to the point with, "Look girl, I think you’re beautiful, would you like to see a movie with me?" And shut up!!!Copy Writing - SEO StrategyDitto for the copy writing - less is more.

Pretend you're writing for NPR. What do they do? They tell you what they are going to tell you, tell you what the have to say and then tell you what the told you. NPR are no dummies, if that's what they do, it must be good so jump on the band wagon and blow your trumpet.

301 Redirect: A Review From The One Who Tried It A Few Times

Author: Val Zamulin
Hi and hello to everyone interested and involved in the clandestine world of SEO matters! Much has been said in the highly reputable places like Webmasterworld and Digital Point about this particular type of redirecting links, pagerank and most importantly anchor text value - but HOW does it actually work in reality? I have come to a few conclusions based on a number of successful and unsuccessful redirects.

Case study #1 - redirecting old penalized domain to a new one:This has issues though - especially related to the famous SANDBOX filter for brandnew dead-in-the-water domains. However based on 4 previous experinces I came to a conclusion that this is more or less a hit and miss issue - in other words in *might* or *might not* work. Success rate is exactly 50% on that one. I am talking Google of course. Before the redirect those were brutally penalized domains that had no PR assigned despite a number of high PR one-ways and no rankings for a 4-kwd geo search even in top 500. In 2 cases out of 4 a 301 redirect did transfer all backlinks and PR and - whew! - top 10 rankings for keywords with medium competitveness. So the verdict is - a 301 redirect could be the last resort when nothing else works to get your penalized domain out of google marsches It did work with Yahoo as well but MSN still seems to be pretty stubborn with all 301's when it comes to passing rankings from an old domain to a new one. This also happens with fixing www vs. non-www issue with MSN. Definitely an issue to see to for huge Microsoft brainiacs.

Case Study #2 - old one to another old one:By "old one" I mean a domain that is at least 1.5 yrs old - in most cases a surefire symptom that your domain is out of sandbox already. A 100% success rate on that one as far as home page links and rankings are concerned. With internal pages it might have issues as well. Internal pages of the domain do not get back to the old rankings that the redirected domain used to have in full - this is my experience after about 4 months and about 25 cache renewals of those new pages. Some of the rankings did come back though but not nearly where they used to be (for instance #9 where it used to be #2 and so on). SE traffic to those internal landing pages decreased by about 50%. My verdict for this is - hold on to your old domains guys!

I would think twice if your medium and long term online and offline marketing perspectives caused by the rebranding are worth losing a good share of your websites traffic in the short term and possibly later on. Having problems with that in MSN again but Yahoo seems to behave in the same way as Google here. I sincerely hope you found this information useful and perhaps managed to weigh out all pros and cons again. Please email me if you have further questions regarding all that has been said above.
